The Story Behind Consider Donation and Blue Water Surrender

Blue Water Surrender was established in 2004 by William Gordon with the original purpose of serving disabled individuals through therapeutic ocean activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling. This early work shaped a culture of compassion, service, and hands-on care.
As the organization evolved, Gail and Ted Gordon, along with their son Trevor, spent extended time in Central America during a family voyage. Their experiences in Guatemala, particularly in the Río Dulce region, revealed significant needs among vulnerable and abandoned children. This exposure led Blue Water Surrender to expand its mission toward child protection and restoration.
When Gail assumed leadership, she became actively involved with a children’s home in Poptún that served abused and neglected children. After a fire destroyed the facility, Blue Water Surrender assisted in fundraising and rebuilding efforts. Through this involvement, the organization recognized the critical need for a long-term, stable home designed to meet not only physical needs but also emotional and spiritual well-being.
This realization led to the creation of Casa Agua Azul, Blue Water Surrender’s children’s home in the Río Dulce area. The organization secured and refurbished property, established community relationships, and completed the required governmental processes to operate legally under Guatemalan child welfare authorities. Casa Agua Azul has since welcomed children into a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
Today, Casa Agua Azul is firmly established and continues to grow. A Mission House supports incoming volunteer teams and partners, and a hardwood reforestation project is underway to promote future sustainability and responsible land stewardship. Through these combined efforts, Blue Water Surrender maintains a long-term commitment to providing consistent, high-quality care for the children it serves.
